Give the roof area an unmistakable name
A home can have a main pitched roof and a low-slope porch, garage, or addition. Name the section in the written request. Where descriptions could be confused, ask the contractor to identify the boundary in the proposal using an appropriate marked reference.
| Boundary detail | Clarification to request |
|---|---|
| Named section | Porch, garage, addition, or several areas? |
| Adjoining roof | Does any work extend onto it? |
| Wall connection | Which related roofing details are included? |
| Related finishing | What is excluded or arranged separately? |
Ask what happens at the boundary
The point where the small roof meets a wall or another roof deserves a scope discussion. Ask which related components will be retained or changed. You do not need to specify how the connection should be constructed to ask whether it is included.
Read finishing and related-work terms
Clarify debris removal, affected gutters or trim, interior repairs, and items handled by others where relevant. A roof repair does not automatically include ceiling repainting or every adjacent component. Ask for the actual terms rather than inferring them from a short description.
Questions to take with you
